Includes epistulary text: "My design in having Weed Creek Traversed from the Falls to Ticonderoga is that I may make a Correct Map of the Waters from Sandy Hook to St. Johns at the north End of Lake Champlain & I expect you will make an advantage to yr-self by publishing such a map which I propose to give you the benefit of doing ..." Captains Graham, Wooster, Gardiners, Clark, Lieutenants Alex[ande]r C[a]lhoun, Etherington and Lesslie are mentioned in this text or on map. West side of creek marked "This side of the Waters Laid Down from Mr Kennedys Survey."
Provenence described in a 1906 Aug 23 letter on Dodd, Mead and Company letterhead. "About two years ago, we purchased in Kingston, N.Y. a box of papers which had evidently belonged to William Cockburn ... surveyor ... Among the papers were a few documents relating to surveys signed by Cadwallader Colden, several others by David Colden and Aldexander Colden ... A private collector ... came to the conclusion that the Map was undoubtedly in the autograph of Cadwallader Colden."
