Papers and photographs, 1943-1945 | WorldCat.org (original) (raw)

Abstract:Scattered papers and photographs of Donald J. Cochran, who served as a photographer's mate with the United States Navy in Bermuda during World War II. Documents include his identification card from the Naval Air Station in Bermuda, two commendations, a U.S. Navy photo album cover, and menus from Thanksgiving meals. Three newspapers from Bermuda, located in the oversized folders, highlight two significant events in the war: the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and V-E Day. The photographs document the life of Navy seamen on Bermuda during the war and include several pictures of Cochran in Navy uniform. There are shots of players and the crowd from the Lily Bowl, an Army-Navy football game played in Bermuda in January 1945. Numerous photos of individual sailors and groups, mostly unidentified, show the men Cochran associated with and his interest in photography. Numerous shots of scenery around the island of Bermuda show buildings, street scenes, and seascapes. Box 2 holds a decorative leather bound photo album containing a similar mix of scenery and personnel shots. The collection also contains a color negative of an unidentified World War II era aircraft
