Summary:Lists of books at "Elmwood" were compiled after the death of Muscoe R.H. Garnett. The lists are in the hands of his mother, Maria Hunter Garnett, her executor Philip Stephen Hunter and his sister Martha Taliaferro Hunter. A later pencil list is in the hand of James Mercer Garnett, grandson of Maria Hunter Garnett and heir to "Elmwood." Explanatory notes in the front of the volume and on several pages of the list were made by Mary Barton Picton (Garnett) Mitchell in 1939. Several pages were torn out and are loose in the volume as is the 1879 list
