Summary:Journal kept by a U.S. Naval Academy graduate while serving as a midshipman on the U.S.S. Congress during the Civil War. He shows Joshua R. Sands as flag officer and L. M. Goldsborough as captain. He states his reasons for entering the U.S. Navy and that his purpose for keeping a journal is to improve his profession and not to record any personal experiences.
