Summary:The collection primarily contains materials arising from the professional and organizational activities of Rabbi Israel Miller, such as the Conference of Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (1970-2000), the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture (1973-1995), the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations (1971-1988), the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (1984-1988), the American Zionist Federation (1970-1976), the Israel Task Force of the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council (1980-1995), the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry (1967-1977) the American Zionist Youth Foundation (1978-1988), and a small amount of material from Miller's involvement with Yeshiva University, primarily speeches. (The Yeshiva University administrative files found in the Papers have been incorporated into the institutional records of Yeshiva University). Miller's rabbinic career is documented through materials from events of the Kingsbridge Heights Jewish Center (1942-1968), as well as files of weddings and funerals at which he officiated or spoke, Jewish divorce cases in which he was involved (restricted), and several sermons he wrote. Also contains materials from Miller's activities as an army chaplain and head of the Jewish Welfare Board's Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy (1943, 1958-1963). Additionally, includes materials from Miller's involvement with the Jewish community of South Africa and the human rights of that country's population, as well as his attendance at the funeral of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir as part of the U.S. Presidential Delegation (1978). Also includes personal and family materials and memorabilia, such as correspondence, photographs, awards, appointment books and audio recordings. There is also a series of 36 scrapbooks, dating from 1942 through 2002, which contain photographs, invitations, event announcements, and clippings
