Big John Studd (spot No. 27) wins the Royal Rumble Match

It was fitting that a big man won the first-ever Royal Rumble Match fought under the pay-per-view spotlight. Big John Studd last eliminated "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase to claim victory. The final four included "The Model" Rick Martel, Akeem, DiBiase and Studd. The Million Dollar Man all but guaranteed he'd be a Rumble factor when he bought his way into the final Rumble spot after originally drawing a far-less-favorable number. Ax and Smash of Demolition drew Nos. 1 and 2 -- then went at it -- proving that it's every man for himself in the Royal Rumble Match. Tension grew in the MegaPowers when Hulk Hogan eliminated "Macho Man" Randy Savage.
