We've been waiting for a fun 3D action platformer on the Xbox for some time now -- and no, Blinx didn't cut it. Luckily, thanks to a healthy dollop of Jambalaya juice, Beep's new burlap hero Voodoo Vince seems to fit the bill rather nicely. This game takes the tried-and-tested 3D action platformer formula and puts a slightly different spin on the gameplay. It's nothing that you haven't seen before in the likes of Rare's Banjo-Kazooie or Sony's Ratchet & Clank, but nevertheless, Voodoo Vince is here, and he's pretty cool to boot. Read More »

High concepts (or at least what pass for high concepts in video games) come and go, but Voodoo Vince's is a bit more intriguing than most: to kill his enemies, he's gotta get hurt himself. That's because Vince is a voodoo doll, giving the game an excuse for both its unabashedly alliterative title and its loopy new gameplay mechanic. As you'd imagine, the developers at Beep Industries have taken a few liberties when co-opting elements of the Voodoo religion for use in Vince. Voodoo combat action: Players can employ more than 30 voodoo attacks that do outrageous things to Vince, but it's the monsters who end up hurting! Unlike in other games, players must actually USE dangers and hazards, instead of running from them. Falling safes, prickly pushpins, and bolts of lightning bring a whole new meaning to the phrase no pain, no gain; Magical voodoo world: Thrust into the depths of a twisted and dangerous world, Vince must trek through 30 detailed levels, including crawfish laden swamps, a graveyard filled with imps and lost zombies, a fantastic French Quarter, and a network of boggy sewers.
