Grateful Dead Family Discography: The Last Time (original) (raw)
The song was also played by The Dead, Furthur, Dead & Company, Ratdog, Phil Lesh & Friends, Weir & The Waybacks, Billy & The Kids, the New Riders Of The Purple Sage and by Phil Lesh sitting in with the David Nelson Band.
The Last Time was the Stones first self-written hit record. It was first recorded by them at the RCA Studios Hollywood in January/February 1965 and released shortly afterwards on a single. The song topped the pop charts in the UK but not in the US.
The Last Time was possibly inspired by the Staple Singers recording from 1954, This May Be The Last Time.
The Andrew Oldham Orchestra version of Last Time was sampled by UK group The Verve on their 90's hit song Bitter Sweet Symphony.
