A former ruckman who appeared for the club in <1895> and <1896>, McCulloch missed the start of the <1898> season while living in Broken Hill. He returned to play three more games that year, and one in <1899>.

He was cleared to in April <1901> and played two seasons there.

Also served as a policeman during his career. In 1916 he enlisted in the Army and served in World War I.

In June 1897 it's suggested that McCulloch played under an assumed name at some point. He might have been the "Williams" who played in Melbourne's Round 1 1897 and Round 2 <1897> sides.

In 1900 he was said to have missed a year and returned when official records show he played in 1899.
