The youngest player ever to debut for the club, Stone played five games in his first two years before enlisting in the Navy as soon as he turned 18. After the war he returned to Hastings, before returning to the VFL as a tall defender in <1949>. He had trouble regularly attending training and went back to Hastings after three games, playing there through <1952> and winning the Mornington Peninsula League's best player award three times.
