A solid, competitive utility-defender, Bailey first appeared on the senior list in <1982> before making his debut two seasons later. He came from a successful junior pedigree, having played in eight premierships for St Peter's.
After as solid first season, he had disappointing <1985> and <1986> campaigns, before losing weight on a fitness program before <1987>. That year he kicked the winning goal in the 1987 Panasonic Cup Final, after spending most of the night on the bench with sore ribs.
Dropped from Melbourne's list at the end of <1989>, he was picked up by with selection #33 in the 1990 Pre-Season Draft. He played just one match, and finished the year with side Sandringham. Bailey played 81 games with the Zebras between <1990> and <1994>, including two premierships, before returning to them as an assistant coach from <2000> to <2003>.
