Originally selected by Greater Western Sydney with the third pick in the 2011 Draft, the tall midfielder played 13 games in his first season and was nominated for the Rising Star award, but suffered a knee injury before <2013> and was restricted to three matches.

Looking to boost their midfield the Demons swapped picks for Tyson, while also receiving selections in return. Despite only having played 13 games in his first two seasons Tyson quickly took a key role in Melbourne's rebuilt midfield and played every match in his debut season with the club.

Tyson's form suffered in his second year at Melbourne as he battled injury, before recovering to play all but one game in <2016> as one of the side's most important midfielders. He was again consistently in the side in <2017>, playing 19 games before a further 17 in <2018>.

A broken arm in Round 23 nearly cost him the chance to play in the finals, but he recovered in time to appear in all three games of Melbourne's September campaign. At the end of that year he was traded to North Melbourne for Braydon Preuss and draft pick 62. Played three games in each of <2019> and <2021> before being delisted.
