Joining his brothers Brian and Terry at the Demons, John was on the list in <1959> and <1960> but was forced to wait until <1961> to debut.
North Albury initially refused his clearance before the <1959> season, before relenting and allowing both he and Brian to join the club.
He played just two matches in his first season and was forced to have a knee cartilage operation in May <1962>, after which he didn't play senior football again. In mid-<1963> Leahy applied for a clearance to Yarrawonga, where he was setting up business.
