Rebounding defender taken as Melbourne's only selection in the 2001 Rookie Draft. He developed at Casey Demons during <2022>, playing in their premiership side, and retained his spot on the rookie list into <2023>, debuting in the opening round. Expected to drop out of the side when Christian Salem returned, McVee proved one of the revelations of the season, playing every game, receiving a Rising Star nomination, and appearing in both of Melbourne's finals. In April <2023> he signed a contract extension to the end of the 2025 season.
McVee played every game again in <2024>, initially as a defender before moving into the midfield at the end of the year. During the year he polled his first Brownlow Medal vote and kicked his first career goal.
