Forced to undergo a total reconstruction on his right knee after Round 2, 1983, the defender returned with the late in <1984> and remained on the senior list <1985> without playing another senior game.
After a handful of reserves games during <1986> he joined North Melbourne but didn't play a senior game. It took until <1988> for him to restart his VFL career with where he played three matches.
His brother Dallas won the <1983> Stawell Gift and Paul was Melbourne's representative in the <1982> Grand Final Sprint.
