In cold and wet conditions at the MCG, Carlton jumped out to an early lead and had five goals on the board before the Demons kicked one.
The heavens opened in the third term, and the Demons sparked back into life by closing a near seven goal margin to just over three at the last break. They kicked just one more goal for the game, with Chris Judd - who had been well held by James McDonald for the first three quarters - leading his side to victory.
Best for the Demons were McDonald, Green and Rising Star nominee Gysberts.
