Ogden joined Essendon after two best and fairest awards with Northcote CYMS since his debut in <1928> but never made it past their and was cleared to Melbourne in early <1931>. The son of Essendon's Percy and Melbourne's Gordon didn't make his debut until the next season then played three games a wingman.
He remained with the club in <1933> but couldn't make it out of the seconds - where he won a premiership - before joining in <1934>. Ogden played 15 games with them but passed away a year later after suffering pleurisy in both lungs. The Blues' club secretary gave blood for him to have a transfusion but he died the next week.
Carlton's Most Improved Player award was named after Ogden from <1935> to <1950>, as well as the third place Best and Fairest award between <1951> and <1954>. The Best First Year Player award was named after him between <1955> and <1958>.
