The former MCC and Australia batsman became president of the Melbourne Football Club in <1927> and served for two seasons before retiring from the committee at the end of <1928>.
In the club's annual report the next year he was described as an "illustrious cricketer and good sport. For many years an ardent, sincere and enthusiastic worker for our club".
In <1929> Joe Blair took over as President, but Ransford later returned and was Melbourne's delegate to the league until retiring to become secretary of the MCC in <1939>. He beat more than 150 applicants for the job, including one from Don Bradman. He served in the role until <1957> when he retired due to ill-health.
He was made an OBE in <1954>.
