PS. Did you ever see the movie "Stop or my mother will shoot". A cops mother scrubbed his gun with steel wool and put it in the washing machine. She keeps buying machine pistols off the back of a truck and trying to give them to him to make up for destroying his gun.

I think Andre will email everyone that has participated in the project once it's ready to go again.
I wonder if they've made any progress with the slowdown on certain systems or if we'll be picking back up trying to debug that? I did notice something on the BOINC dev list in July about the boinc client having some stuff in it that caused a high load. IIRC, it was something about the loop that checks for disk space used by projects. I think it had something to do with traversing directories and reading file information resulting in files being opened and possibly timestamps being updated.
BTW, My turn for a Win :-)

In Geneva the 3rd "pan-galactic BOINC workshop" will be held from 5 to 6 in this month. I'm not sure that the team of this project will be there (I hope they'll participate)...hopefully the project will be active again after the workshop; otherwise we should wait for the next semester in the university in delaware.
I win today!

Hi,
Information about how to block modified, namely cruncher's, client:
It's informed on the boinc mailing list...Anyway, I win!

Is that needed here? I thought we were on some sort of fixed credit system.
Edit: P.S. You had extra quotes in your link. I fixed in this reply. However, the web site that the link points to is broken.

These days I've tried to install linux on my computer. The distro is called "Sabayon", the gentoo-family. I found it interesting in that there's no package provided (in general); the binary is compiled on my own computer, optimising the configuration of compiling. And boinc is also able to be installed in that way!
But I almost give up as it requires long time to let everything on computer be compiled. more than 2 days or so...
Did anyone succeeded to install boinc without problem?
thanks,
suguruhirahara

Man... I wouldn't touch anything based on Gentoo with a ten foot pole. I'm not that patient (nor that technically skilled).
But yes, I've gotten BOINC up and running on Fedora 7. I followed the directions that Eric Myers put up on his site (and if I can do it, just about anyone can). I had a few bumps in the road, but the documentation has been fixed (Eric used my feedback).
http://www.spy-hill.net/~myers/help/boinc/unix.html
BOINC should also be in the package managers. I'm not sure how outdated the version is though.

I've asked on the board how to make sabayon i686, in order to run boinc, but the response which I got from the developer made me astonished; the guy said to me that what I was doing was nonsense!
Yes, I'm actually stupid; to use fedora, suse or ubuntu is better and wiser.

I hear you on the "no idea what I am doing". I stumble around in the dark on a good day.
A mess as in you have everything from the message tab in that terminal window? It's my understanding if you start it with the & you can then close the terminal window. You can always run down your cache and try it. Monitor it with `top`.
I <3 the script on Eric's page. No more terminal window for me. Well, only one long enough to start the manager. And then it's like being in Windows.

Notification is as simple as putting it in the RSS news section (and then making sure we're subscribed!).
I clearly win!

After I posted that, I wondered if Hot Cross Buns were widespread in distribution. Or, indeed, that rabbits were called "bunnies" in a lot of places. "Play on words" humour is probably of limited range.

Safer joke then,
Guy calls for an ambulance...
Dispatcher: "Hello how can I help you?"
Guy: "We were out hunting. There has been an accident. I've shot my friend. He's dead."
Dispatcher: "Okay sir, calm down. Are you quite sure he's dead?"
Guy: Hang on... sound of gunshot ... yup, I'm sure. What's next?"

Our goal is to move on Beta this Monday, right now we are testing that the project will be ready to serve a bigger number of users and that we don't have many issues with the distribution and collection of results, also with crashes of the application.
It seems that now I'm WINNING!!!! =)
