December 23, 1893 - March 9, 1944Captain in the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War, Brown holds the distinction of being the man who shot down the famous German pilot Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, on April 21, 1918, while he was pursuing another Canadian pilot, "Wop" May. Credited with downing ten enemy planes, Brown was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross on 2 November 1917, with a Bar on 21 June 1918.
