Press Release The number 1 emo-core group of Belgium has performed in a lot of European countries already, among other as the support act for bands such as KARATE, The Van Pelt and Blonde Redhead. On the latest editon of Pukkelpop, they were among the big surprises. Last year REIZIGER has released a mini-cd as well as the beautiful full-length "Our Kodo", both on Genet Records. The last one contains minimial, melancholic pop songs that stand out by virtue of their almost transparent guitar sound. REIZIGER easily takes the measure of any dull guitar band from Belgium. Their songs are much more like a ride New York - D.C. than a steamtrain expedition between Mechelen and Erps-Kwerps. In the press : - I haven't found any reviews of the album unfortunately (probably because I read the wrong sort of press). Did you see a good (or bad) review of the album ? Send it to me !
My Opinion "Our Kodo" is not the easiest record to put in your CD-player (although it comes in a standard box, has a standard format and begins playing as soon as you press the "play"-button). These guys (and girls) from Hechtel in Limburg aren't exactly party-animals, and they don't write straightforward songs. They label themselves as being "Emo-core", hardcore with emotions. Yet the record is neither very hardcore (the rhythms are never "extremily" fast or loud), neither is it very emotional (eg. the latest Whitney Houston or Alanis Morisette are a lot more emotional experiences for me : they make me want to hurl, cry, vomit ... so consider that a plus for Reiziger). What remains are 8 songs that start by sounding somewhat alike, but start to show a distinct identity after a few spins. If you want names to compare the group with, I'd mention The Fall ("Waitingday" could be a song from them), Sonic Youth (the wandering guitars). The best song of the cd is the last one, the powerful "Aren't we detecting ?", which merits a radio career.I have some reservations on the too tense vocals of the singer and the cheap-ish production, but still was very pleased with discovering the work of this inventive guitarband. And your opinion? Did I get it all wrong, or was I spot-on ? Do you want to share your opinion about this cd ? Send it in, and I'll put it up here !
More about this group : - The official place on the Net of the group is probably Genet Records.- Contact : Reiziger - Hoogstraat 1 bus 1 - 3940 Hechtel - Belgiumemail : geert.reiziger@village.uunet.be
