Stars with Exoplanets: GJ 436 (original) (raw)

This red dwarf has two known planets. The Neptune-sized GJ 436b, orbiting the star every 2.64 days in a distance of 0.029 AU, has 0.072 times the mass of Jupiter and 0.38 times its diameter. Whereas GJ 436c, discovered in April 2008, orbits every 5.2 days, it has about five times the mass of Earth and 1.5 times its diameter and so is one of the smallest exoplanets found to date.
