The JDK hasn't used the legacy sun.io converters for many years. They were deprecated a long time ago and were originally due to be pulled out in jdk6. The jdk6 plans were scuppered by at least JDBC driver that insisted on calling into the sun.io.* classes directly. A second attempt in jdk7 also failed. Now that jdk8 is open for business then it seems a good time to try again. So if anyone knows of any code that it still using sun.io then now would be a good time to speak up.
