Understood. One possibility is to lower our standards a bit, and just check this in as is without proof that it will fix a bug, because the chance that it will is very much higher than the risk of injecting a new undetected bug.

The real world use case (seen in the wild) is someone creating a non-zip64 3GB jar file, with the manifest at the end (yeah, they shouldn't do that) and then running with java -jar on that.
