I think the issues with G1 were more implementation bugs; that is, some code had a bug that was hidden/uncaught on stronger memory models. I don't think there's anything in G1's design that's an issue. At least that's what I understood by looking at CRs coming from Volker/Goetz.

Our algorithm should work if you have a dependable CAS instruction. I will ask about access to a PowerPC machine.
