Make sure you have the static version of stdc++ installed. E.g. on my Mandriva I've got the following packages installed:

$ rpm -qa | grep stdc libstdc++-static-devel-4.4.3-2mnb2 libstdc++6-4.4.3-2mnb2 libstdc++-devel-4.4.3-2mnb2 libstdc++5-3.3.6-4mdv2009.0

It is the "static-devel" package that is required by OpenJDK.
