Make sure FF isn't being run in 32 bit mode, we've run into that. Also take a look at about:plugins in FF and see what is registered for Java.

You can always try installing it on 10.6.8, but we make no guarantees. Thanks. (Did - no luck [Then checked for pre-reqs] but might of did something wrong. Checked Firefox - I thought they used to hook up with their own code but this no longer appears to be the case there either).
