Looking through the string methods, it appears that only a few of them, seemingly chosen arbitrarily, have start and stop arguments.
Seems to me a string-view object supporting all of the string methods would be a much better idea than this haphazard mixture, and would fit in nicely with the Py3k views philosophy.
