I think Python is one of the only open source projects to use a _[A-Z] prefix on non-local symbols. That seems more dangerous that other non-standard stuff. Also, it could be hard to work around if someone runs into trouble. My gut feeling is that it's not worth the effort to change but I wanted it to be considered for 3k.
