Great! I've just updated 1.6 to include the Distutils-0_9_1 tagged version of the distutils package and the documentation. I'm rebuilding our release candidates now.
In short: no problem! It built, tested, and installed just fine.

Oops, just noticed that my configure.in fix from late May didn't make the cut: ... Oh well. This means that Robin Dunn's bsddb extension won't work with Python 1.6 under Solaris.
That's unfortunate.
