is there any hope of renaming the implementation to something along the lines of "dsets" to remind the user of the discreteness? (Am I being too pedantic?)
I think you're being too pedantic. In the context of programming languages, "set" always means a discrete set, in my experience.
A non-discrete set would better be called an "interval" or something like that.
