On Solaris 8, I've had the test pass, hang, and crash the interpreter (actually it was test_threaded_import when running all the tests). The problem may be related to Mark's changes, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, the tests passed when run many times with the change below, perhaps it will work for you. I'm running the entire suite on Solaris now. The change works on Linux.
