I'm going to leave the name at pimp for the time being (Python 2.3, Mac-only), and after 2.3 I'll probably write a PEP on the subject and come up with another name.
Note that "pimp" is the name of the underlying module only, the user interface which people would normally use is PackageManager. Pimp can be invoked as a commandline tool too, but this is only for die-hard unix hackers anyway, and I'll just chance it they can see the humor.
And, yes, I guess it's a cultural thing. Here in Amsterdam a pimp is a pretty respectable profession. Definitely higher standing than a cab driver, somewhat on par with a coffeeshop owner:-)
