Of course, it would be sufficient to set it to a smaller value on systems that support only older X/Open issues; I think I'd accept a patch that changes this (if the patch is correct, of course). Defining EXTENSIONS could also help. IIRC it works just like=20 _GNU_SOURCE/_NETBSD_SOURCE.
