For that matter, why do we need the brackets if there is only one attribute:
def foo(bar, baz) staticmethod: pass
Because the decorator doesn't stand out enough that way. It's a matter of opinion, but I think it looks better with the brackets, even if there is only one decorator.
The brackets mean "here is something additional", not "here is a list".
