I certainly find them to be a very useful reminder of list threads that got overwhelmed by other discussions.
I'm still trying to close out the naming issues for PEP 343, but I hope to get back to the "Template.format" method idea eventually (along with an idea inspired by the discussion of the module level functions in the 're' module - how about providing similar module level functions in the string module that correspond to the methods of Template objects?).
