IMO there's almost no chance this can go into 2.5. "almost"? I'll go you one better. No way at all will it be in 2.5. And I'd be a firm -1 on adding in to 2.6 as well. It encourages bad coding. You shouldn't be searching lists and tuples like that unless you know what you're doing.

NB: I did not support adding that method, only notified the OP of the 2.5 situation.
