Notice that there is already a warning there: the documentation clearly states that the behavior has changed, and, of course, Misc/NEWS lists it as changed behavior.
As a sidenote, this item should be included in the 2.6 "What's new"'s "porting" section.
Perhaps it would be a good "policy" to automatically list potentially breaking fixes there instead of rolling off that task to Andrew.
