Unless you're using a very broad scope, I don't think that you'd need more than a few hundred LSEs for a typical application - nothing you'd want to put in the Python stdlib, though.
I tend to agree with this (and I'm generally in favor of putting everything in the standard library!). For those of us doing document-processing applications (Martin, it's not just about Web browsers), this would be a very useful package to have up on PyPI.
