ISTM, 3.0 is in pretty good shape. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with it.
I think it has many bugs, some known before the release, but many more yet to show up. I agree that the design is good; the implementation will certainly improve (I deliberately didn't say "could have been better", because it could not have been better, given the time available to the contributors).
