Just trying to clarify the focus: would you like to see any of these applied to 2.6?
All optimisations patches are long and may introduce new regressions. It's better to wait for 2.7/3.1.
But it would be nice to get numbits() method (or property?) in Python 3.0(.1) and/or Python 2.6.1.
