You might argue that if you want to include 8 versions of Python this makes the notation slightly longer, but who tests their package with 8 different versions of Python? (and if you don't test exhaustively, just use the "2.5+" notation) Wouldn't "2.5+" include "3"? How often would that be used, considering the differences between Python 2.x and Python 3.x?
