It generally points you towards the right messages in the python-dev archives, but those are kept by month and the threading doesn't always work well. Sometimes conversations span many months, and threading can be an immense help for understanding the discussion.
Something like MarkMail (as Dirkjan mentioned) may have a better interface. I'll give it a try.
