I did and it already uses the same (wrong) name for both encoding and decoding handlers which is good.

The reason for my above comment was that the thread mentions two different names for the handler depending on the direction, e.g. "surrogatereplace" and "surrogatepass".

I guess that "surrogatepass" was just an attempt to find a new name for the "surrogates" error handler (which also doesn't match the naming scheme) and that got me confused.

I'd use "allowlonesurrogates" as name for the "surrogates" error handler and "lonesurrogatereplace" for the "utf8b" one.
