ConfigParser recognises both, but other tools (coff ConfigObj) only recognises the latter (=). yes, I've just used ConfigParser syntax because that's what Distutils uses.
If ':' is deprecated in favor of '=' only, Distutils will be fine with that change.
I would be +1 for its deprecation
