Thanks Glyph. That is a nice summary of one kind of challenge facing programmers. Ironically, Glyph also described the pain in 2.x: it only "kinda" worked.
The people with problematic code to convert must imclude some who managed to tolerate and perhaps suppress the pain. I suspect that conversion attempts brings it back to the surface. It is natural to blame the re-surfacer rather than the original source. (As in 'blame the messenger').
