Contenders include popular libraries like fabric and django: http://docs.fabfile.org/0.9.2/usage/fabfiles.html http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.2/intro/tutorial03/ That is one very specific module in Django that gets imported that way, it is not a general pattern recommended by Django. For every other Django module besides that one you will see specific imports being used in the doc.
