Ok, good answer. In this case, I vote +1 to remove completly the ANSI version from all Python modules. I think caution is still necessary. So I propose to deprecate byte filenames on Windows in 3.2, with removal in 3.3. People who think this is a terrible mistake and breaks there applications with no hope of a sensible solution can then still intervene.
I was going to suggest much the same thing.
