+1. I'd much rather just use the module from PyPI.
It would be good to have a practical guide on how to manage the transition from third-party to core library module though. A PEP with a list of modules earmarked for upcoming inclusion in the standard library (and which Python version they're intended to be included in) might focus community effort on using, testing and fixing modules before they make it into core and fixing becomes a lot harder.
+1 for your +1, and earmarking. That's the word I was looking for, and instead chose "advocacy".
