William Parsons, the Third Earl of Rosse (June 17, 1800 - October 31, 1867)
In his 1850 paper, Lord Rosse lists 14 "spiral or curvilinear nebulae:"M74 (NGC 628, h 142),M77 (NGC 1068, h 262), NGC 1637 (h 327), NGC 3198 (h 695), M96 (NGC 3368, h 749), NGC 3726 (h 910), NGC 3938 (h 1002), M100 (NGC 4321, h 1211), M88 (NGC 4501, h 1312), M58 (NGC 4579, h 1368), NGC 4725 (h 1451), M63 (NGC 5055, h 1570), NGC 5557 (h 1776), andNGC 7331 (h 2172).
